About the course
The MSc International Business and Finance is designed to develop a deep knowledge and understanding of the business and finance operations in an international context, whilst also developing your personal and employment skills appropriate for a career in business or financial management in an international business or the financial sector.
Because the specialist subject is multidisciplinary, the course integrates analysis from various disciplines including economics, international business and management, finance and behavioural finance. These skills involve introducing you to the relevant mathematical and modelling skills you need, introducing you to the relevant theory in economics, management, psychology and finance, expanding your knowledge of business and financial instruments and developing your understanding of the critical issues in an international context.
You will be strategically aware of factors affecting agents operating in international business and will understand different theoretical perspectives for the critical appraisal of the role, operation and impact of financial markets internationally. You will develop the relevant research skills for analysing the business operation and impact of finance activity and will have built the study and practice skills relevant for career in an international organisation. All are developed in an international context, taking in to account international policies, culture and regulatory diversity in international business.

On completion of the MSc you will be ideally placed to join management training programmes in the world's largest international companies and financial organisations.
Your aim may be to work for a financial sector organisation such as an investment bank or hedge fund, or the financial department of an international organisation. Or simply to understand better the business and finance decisions you make for a small scale exporting company in terms of exchange rate management and hedging.
This programme will give you much of the knowledge you need to gain professional qualifications in any financial organisation.

How you'll learn
Throughout the programme, you will encounter a diverse range of learning and teaching methods designed to meet the programme aims. At each level, we will provide development and support to help you develop your academic and applied skills and to promote personal development.
The teaching team use a mix of lecture format, group work, discussion, workshops, case study analysis, practical data analysis and personal networking at this level, supported by specific guidance on study texts, on-line study materials and use of blended learning.
How you're assessed
You are assessed through coursework on each module. The coursework will differ on each module and will involve a range of formats including computer based tests, research reports, practical activities, presentations, essays and case studies.
Anything else?
You will benefit in the early stages by studying with and getting to know most of our management postgraduate students at the certificate level, and meeting many students from different countries and different working backgrounds.
On specialist modules, you will be studying in smaller groups with students taking postgraduate degrees in managent and finance and in international business.
You'll benefit from sessions with leading industry experts including our visiting professor, David B. Smith, who is a member of the Shadow Monetary Committee and the main economic consultant for a number of leading investment firms, including Beacon.
The residential
You'll take part in the residential activity at the start of your programme. This is a great way to start off your MSc. You'll get to know your fellow students and the lecturers you'll be working with throughout the programme.
