RED Digital Imaging Technician Course

What is a RED Digital Imaging Technician?

A RED Digital Imaging Technician is a relatively new role within the film industry. A RED DIT is an essential RED shoot crew member requiring expert knowledge of the system and the images it creates.

A RED DIT on a shoot is responsible for the technical set up of the camera and also the safe keeping and processing of the digital data created. He/she is also the on set bridge between production and postproduction.

Who is this course suitable for?

This course is designed primarily for camera crew and directors of photography but it will also be very useful for directors, producers and editors who wish to expand their knowledge of digital cinema production. The course is aimed at freelancers with minimal or no experience of using the RED camera.

We particularly welcome applications from women, because they are under represented in the film industry.

This course is supported by 'Skillset Film Skills Fund'. To be eligible for this funding you need to be a freelancer working regularly in the film industry. In order to process your application we will require your CV.

What will the training consist of?

You will receive training in the latest skills needed to work as a RED DIT on a professional shoot. Training will consist of an instructor led two day course.

Each class will consist of a maximum of 5 delegates per session giving you maximum service to promote effective learning. You will gain the skills you need to confidently control the technical side of RED camera operation and manage the data correctly.

Over two days you will learn how to set-up the camera, acquire and back up media and create rushes and distribute them over various platforms including mobile devices and the Internet.

Prerequisites

To gain maximum benefit from this training you'll need to have a basic knowledge of the Mac operating system, high definition video cameras, non-linear editing (Final Cut Pro) and moving-image production workflow.

Cost

The cost for those who meet the eligibility criteria is £300+VAT. Subsidised places are limited, however, further courses at full cost courses will be available in the near future.
