About this course

This is the minimum award you'll need for teaching in the further education and skills sector. This course also has extra content that will prepare you to study at university level and encourage you to become a successful reflective practitioner.

You do not have to be already teaching in the sector to apply for this course - it is the only part time teaching qualification that does not require any teaching hours. The course aims to provide you with an overview of what is expected of you in terms of teaching, providing you with an opportunity to explore different aspects of the teaching role. It's ideal for you if you are thinking of entering the profession, but are not sure what to expect.

You'll study one 20 credit module, which will cover how to plan, deliver and assess lessons and programmes. You'll also learn about the history of the sector, the roles and responsibilities of a teacher and strategies for motivation and inclusion. Examining the importance of reflection in teaching and learning how to study at an academic level needed for higher education will also be covered.

You will be assessed by completing a reflective blog, a practical 30 minute teaching session and a portfolio of assessed tasks.
