About this course

The postgraduate programme is designed to make you comfortable with core concepts and theories practiced in safe but real business and management situations.

You'll develop a wide and in-depth knowledge across key managerial disciplines on the MA Management. Through optional modules, you'll get opportunity to specialise in areas of particular interest to you. You will practice and expand key subject area skills, as well as enhance your own personal business skills, throughout the programme, all of which will be of benefit to your future career.

The MA starts with the Certificate stage which is also shared across other management masters programmes so that you build a strong support network of global colleagues to learn with. You will concentrate on the broad contextual aspects of management, developing your knowledge and understanding. The main themes here are sustainable business operationse, organisational dynamics, customer behaviours and marketing, as well personal development skills.

At the Diploma stage the focus is on subject specific knowledge and practical skills.  It goes beyond the operational and functional, through the tactical, and towards a more strategic level of deeper understanding in a wider variety of business environments and global contexts.  You'll be internationalising your capabilities throughout your studies.

At the MA level you will develop additional theoretical perspectives in analysis. You'll enhance and practise your intellectual abilities and deepen your understanding and personal skills, with a greater emphasis on independent learning. Activities are centred on real world international cases for market data, analysis and practical and theoretical developments and you will enjoy a choice of options.

Throughout the programme you will develop an Independent Studies dissertation. This is a significant piece of work culminating in your perspectives and resolutions to strategic managerial problems. It is the capstone of your programme and your learning.

The programme has been developed with a range of widely respected international companies as well as past students' inputs so that you are able to deliver what employers are looking for in their managers. Our links with local industries also mean that the concepts and theories that you are learning are practically applied to current business situations through case studies, company visits, mini projects and assignments. All of this is designed to bring your learning to life and introduce you to a choice of careers.

How you will learn

How you'll learn

Each module is studied on campus, using a blend of lectures, tutorials and self study etc. Lectures and seminars are supported by using e-learning materials, through our electronic platform 'Blackboard', and text based resources.

You will have support and access to academic staff throughout your programme, not only in lectures and seminars, through email, office visits and telephone.

Your internationally grounded learning is also developed through the exchange of ideas and experience from the wide peer group of students.

How you're assessed

You'll be assessed mainly through coursework. Assessments will often place you in a position of responsibility, so a report format will be a common vehicle to communicate frameworks, analysis and discussion.

Coursework will cover a wide range of assessment types including computer based assessment, reflective statements, group work analysis, practical activities such as developing an investment portfolio, case studies, reports and presentations.

Careers and employability

An MA is a widely respected qualification, and increasingly becoming an essential requirement on the job market.

On completion of your masters degree you will have experienced many different aspects of management, and developed a broad variety of skills. This means you can consider a management career in a wide range of different fields, from project strategist to HR consultant, whether you're starting your career or about to resume it.
