About this course

This LLM pathway provides an understanding of the human rights regime at international, regional and national levels. This award aims to equip students with a better understanding of some of the main contemporary topics and debates within international human rights law.

A unique aspect of this programme of study is the inclusion of a practical approach to the investigation of human rights violations, which will include some field work. This focuses on the investigation of human rights abuses and includes activities such as trial observations, interviewing victims of human rights violations, and analysing criminal justice documentation, to identify areas of possible violations.

Entry requirements

You will need:

  • a good honours degree or relevant experience
  • if your first language is not English you will need to evidence a proficiency in English (IELTS 7)

Fees and finance

UK/EU students

  • £495 per module (you usually take 9 of these modules in total)

International students

  • Full time: £10,200 (in total)

How you're assessed

You'll be assessed through a combination of research papers and other pieces of coursework that you will complete in relation to your studies on particular modules.

You'll be better equipped to join organisations working in the human rights field, from law firms to governments and NGOs, because of the insights you will have gained in the investigation of human rights abuses and the knowledge and understanding you will have acquired in relation to criminal trials, interviewing victims of human rights violations and analysis of criminal justice documentation to identify areas of possible violations.
