About this course
We offer two pathways to our MSc Enviornmental Management, these are:
- MSc Environmental Management
- MSc Environmental Management: Climate Change
We've developed this course in response to the national and international need for environmental officers and flexible postgraduate training.
You will develop a strong theoretical understanding of environmental management, and build up the skills you'll need to identify environmental issues and find practical solutions. If you're already working in this area, many of the topics you'll study will be directly relevant to your workplace.
You can start this flexible course in either September or January, and study it full time or part time, either online or on campus or a combination of both. So you'll be able to fit your studies around your interests and career needs.
You'll be assessed mainly through your coursework - this includes reports, audits, case study scenarios, essays, and problem solving assignments.
You'll be taught by a highly qualified team who have specialist expertise in this area and professional qualifications including Chartered Environmentalist status and a range of professional memberships including the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment, the Institution of Environmental Sciences, Institute of Acoustics, the British Society for Geomorphology, the Royal Geographical Society, and the Institute of Leadership and Management.

Entry requirements
You'll normally need an undergraduate degree (minimum second class award) - science or related degree preferred - but applicants with a degree from a range of disciplines can be considered.
If you have extensive and relevant work experience at an appropriate level, your application will also be welcome.
You must provide a CV detailing your academic and work experience and a reference from your workplace or the institution where you undertook your previous study.
You'll normally need one of the following English Language qualifications:
- IELTS 6.0
- TOEFL (paper-based) 550
- TOEFL (computer-based) 213
- TOEFL (online) 93
- GCE O level English Language Grade C
- GCSE English Grade C.
Other equivalent English Language qualifications may be accepted and you should provide full details with your application.

UK/EU students
- £495 per module (you usually take 9 of these modules in total)
International students
- Full time: £10,500 (in total)

How you will learn
How you'll learn
On-campus students attend lectures, workshops, practical (field and lab based) sessions, tutorials and site visits in the individual modules where appropriate.
Distance learning students access the course notes and assignment details online. In addition, the University has a well resourced learning centre and provides extensive on-line support for distance learning students.
How you're assessed
All coursework, except one optional module which has an examination component.
Careers and employability
The role of the environmental manager has become more important as industry is required to manage and control the interaction between themselves and the wider environment, so the skills you learn on this course will be in high demand.
Students who have graduated from this course have gone on to employment with a range of organisations such as the local authorities, Government bodies, private companies in industry, or consultancies. And some have chosen to move on to a higher degree such as a PhD.
