About this course

The focus of this course is to equip you with the necessary skills, knowledge and competencies to enable you to understand and evaluate the risks posed by the full range of environmental health hazards (stressors) which can impact onto human health and well being. You will then be able to critically evaluate a full range of sustainable interventions which are available to eliminate or mitigate the stressors thereby protecting human health and promoting well being.

You can start this flexible course in either September or January, and study it full time or part time. If you are studying full time, you would typically need to attend university for two days per week, and you'll study a total of six modules during the first two semesters, and then complete your Independent Study from April to September which is equivalent to three modules. If you are a part time student you will need to attend university one day per week. This means you'll be able to fit your studies around your interests and career needs. You would normally take one or two modules each semester for two years, and then complete your Independent Study over one year. Other part time options are available, which can be tailored to meet your specific needs.

By studying this course, you can choose to register with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) to obtain professional recognition. To achieve this you will need to undertake a range of professional assessments. This course has been designed and accredited to meet three of the five professional requirements needed for registration purposes and our professionally qualified academic team will be able to advise and guide you with regard to the other two aspects. Taking their assessments will enable you to become a qualified environmental health practitioner.

All our staff are very supportive, friendly and approachable, so you'll get the help you need with any academic problems you have during this course.

If you are currently working in an environmental health related field, you will be able to undertake the work based learning that is necessary for you to complete the CIEH portfolio of professional practice.
