About this course

If you are interested in the concept of education in its broadest sense, this course is for you. Whether your interests lie in the practical application of education, or the abstract theory of the mechanisms, purpose and rationale for education; you will be afforded the opportunity to explore, critique and research education, enabling you to develop expertise in your field. You will be able to share your experiences with other professionals on the course who come from a wide range of backgrounds. This will help you to broaden your knowledge of education and your understanding of prominent issues.

During this course, you will have the opportunity to gain an expert understanding of the aims of education and its role within society, whilst also exploring education theory, policies and practices. You will undertake an independent study which will develop your confidence, research skills and the expertise that is required of a senior member of the educational profession.

You will be taught by a highly experienced educational team who have expertise across a range of educational sectors ranging from lifelong learning, secondary school, further education and higher education

What you’ll study

To gain your MA Education you will need to achieve 180 credits at Level 7.

You’ll study these modules:

  • Studying at Masters Level (20 credits)
  • Educational Research Theory and Practice (Sociological) (20 credits)
  • Psychological Considerations in Educational Research Theory and Practice (20 credits)
  • Educational Debates (20 credits)
  • Comparative Education (20 credits)
  • Evidence Based Practice (20 credits)
  • Independent Study (60 credits)

 

Entry requirements

  • You will usually need an undergraduate degree or an equivalent qualification.
  • If your first language is not English you will need to prove you are proficient in English – IELTS 6.0

This is a classroom based course.

UK/EU students

£500 per module (you will usually take 9 modules in total) :

  • PG Certificate (3 x 20 credit modules) £1,500
  • PG Diploma (3 x 20 credit modules) £1,500
  • Masters Independent study (1 x 60 credit module) £1,500

International students

  • Full time: £10,455 (in total)

Throughout the course you'll be taught through a range of mechanisms including lectures, seminars, workshops, tutorials and an independent study.

How you're assessed

You will be assessed through essays, presentations and reports.

By studying for a Masters in Education you will develop your skills and competencies in relation to transferable skills such as independent working, verbal and written communication, presentation skills, team working and self confidence. You will be encouraged to develop the skills of critical, creative and strategic thinking, enabling you to offer unique educational insights and encourage positive change to an employment environment. Such skill sets will enhance your career prospects by increasing both your educational knowledge base and transferable skills in relation to the field of education. 

Additionally, once you have completed an MA Education, you could go on to further study by taking the Doctor of Education or a PhD.
