About this course
The content and structure of the course is designed to provide you with an academically challenging and vocationally relevant degree that encompasses all of the issues involved in successfully maintaining and progressing your career pathway within the operations and maintenance area.
The aims of this course are to provide you with knowledge and skills that will enable you to engage with continuing professional development and further study in the discipline of operations and maintenance engineering.
This course will also provide you with an academic education focusing on the technology, design, project management, manufacture and health and safety.
What you will cover
You'll study a total of 120 credits per year. This will be made up of single or double modules.
Stage one
You'll study modules such as:
- Applied Scientific Methods
- Engineering Workshop
- Regulatory Systems (Work Based Learning)
- Introduction to Instrumentation and Control
- Quality, Reliability and Work Environment (Work Based Learning)
- Electrical and Electronic Principles
Stage two
You'll study modules such as:
- Project Foundation Degree - Operations and Maintenance Engineering (Work Based Learning)
- Operations Management
- Electrical and Electronic Systems
- Industrial Control Systems
- Environmental Management (Work Based Learning)
- Corporate Responsibility and Professional Development (Work Based Learning)
- Thermofields
Entry requirements
At least 160 points at A Level, with at least one A2 level in an analytical, scientific or technology based subject area, plus supporting passes in mathematics and English language at GCSE at grade C or above (or equivalent). If you've completed an Access/Foundation course, we also accept these qualifications.
Students who do not meet the entry requirements but have relevant industrial experience, or a demonstrable aptitude for the programme are encouraged to apply and will be considered on their individual merits, based on an interview and completed application.

This is a resource intensive course.
UK/EU students
- Part time: £935 per module (you usually take 12 of these modules in total)

Careers and employability
This course will enable you to gain the skill sets required by industry that will enable you to work within passenger vehicle manufacturers, rail infrastructure maintenance, rail vehicle manufacture and refurbishment companies, aerospace component and aerospace engine manufacturers, food manufacturers and composites material manufacturers.
