About this course
Marketing is constantly evolving and changing. This degree will equip you with a deep understanding of the fundamentals of marketing so that you have the knowledge to adapt to and embrace ongoing change.
Throughout the degree we'll also look at developing your workplace skills to increase your employability including:
- Work effectively in a team
- Prepare and deliver presentations
- Write reports
- Understand and work to a budget
- Write effective copy
The BA (Hons) Marketing and Brand Management is one of only a few marketing courses in the UK accredited by The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) for a Dual Award.
This means that while you are studying for your degree you have the opportunity to:
- Work towards the CIM Professional Diploma in Marketing.
- Be eligible to join The Chartered Institute of Marketing
- Achieve Institute of Direct Marketing professional qualifications.

Entry requirements
Our entry requirements are usually 260 UCAS points, of which at least 220 will be from your core A2s (full A levels) or equivalent qualifications such as BTEC Diploma, International Baccalaureate, Scottish Highers etc.
We'll accept up to 40 points towards the total from level 3 qualifications such as AS levels (where those AS levels are not taken on to A2 level), the Extended Project or Music qualifications.
We don't accept points from Key Skills Level 3. If you have any questions about what is or isn't accepted, please contact our Admissions team.
We also accept the Access to HE Diploma.
Your points at level 3 will be in addition to 5 GCSEs at grade C or equivalent level 2 qualifications.
The UCAS tariff points are a guide - we'll also consider all the information that you've included in your application. We'll also want to see that you're enthusiastic and motivated to take this course and that you have the potential to benefit from coming to university.

Fees for 2013/14
This is a classroom based course.
UK/EU students
- Full time: £7,700 (each year)
We'll be announcing our part time and international fees for 2013/14 later in the year.

How you will learn
The first year of your degree will give you an introduction to all business disciplines including finance, economics, data analysis and human resource management and how these relate to marketing. You will also cover the fundamentals of marketing and learn how marketing functions in a real business.
Throughout the degree we integrate everything you are learning and apply it in business scenarios.
You'll start to specialise in marketing areas including:
- Customer communication
- Understanding and developing a brand,
- Emerging technologies including SEO and social networking
You can choose to take an optional placement year, giving you the chance to work alongside marketing professionals and see first hand how the knowledge and skills you've learnt are put into practice.
We have a Placements Officer who will help you to find a position and support you throughout the placement period.
You'll learn about areas such as sustainable marketing and services marketing. You have the opportunity to choose 2 options from a range of subjects from consumer behaviour to reputation management. As your knowledge and confidence develops you will apply all of your learning in the Independent Study module. This is an in-depth study of a marketing discipline within an organisational or sector context.
