About this course
The BA Hons Marketing and Advertising Management degree will introduce you to a wide range of marketing disciplines from advertising to reputation management.
You'll learn how to develop research briefs, identify target markets and understand consumers markets.
You'll be taking modules that are accredited by key marketing professional bodies. The BA (Hons) Marketing and Advertising Management is one of only a few marketing courses in the UK that is accredited by The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) for a Dual Award. This Dual Award means that while you are studying for your qualification you also have the opportunity to work towards achieving the CIM Professional Diploma in Marketing as part of your degree programme, enabling you to graduate with an enhanced qualification that are sought after by employers. This additional professional qualification makes you more marketable by distinguishing you from other candidates and is another important step in your career development.
In addition, with appropriate work experience you will be eligible to join The Chartered Institute of Marketing with associate or member status and signatory letters ACIM or MCIM.
You'll also achieve Institute of Direct Marketing professional qualifications.

Entry requirements
Our entry requirements are usually 260 UCAS points, of which at least 220 will be from your core A2s (full A levels) or equivalent qualifications such as BTEC Diploma, International Baccalaureate, Scottish Highers etc.
We'll accept up to 40 points towards the total from level 3 qualifications such as AS levels (where those AS levels are not taken on to A2 level), the Extended Project or Music qualifications.
We don't accept points from Key Skills Level 3. If you have any questions about what is or isn't accepted, please contact our Admissions team.
We also accept the Access to HE Diploma.
Your points at level 3 will be in addition to 5 GCSEs at grade C or equivalent level 2 qualifications.
The UCAS tariff points are a guide - we'll also consider all the information that you've included in your application. We'll also want to see that you're enthusiastic and motivated to take this course and that you have the potential to benefit from coming to university.

This is a classroom based course.

- Full time: £7,700 (each year)
We'll be announcing our part time and international fees for 2013/14 later in the year.

How you will learn
The first stage is shared across all marketing degrees. You'll also be introduced to the fundamentals of marketing understanding how marketing functions in a real business in conjunction with other departments and customers.
You'll learn the business disciplines of finance, economics, data analysis and human resource management and how these relate to marketing.
Through a combination of teamwork and individual assessments you'll have the opportunity to work on a business simulation working in teams with allocated roles including:
- Managing Director
- HR Director
- Finance Director
As part of the course you will learn to analyse market conditions, competitors and methods of improving cost efficiency.
Building on your core knowledge in the first year, you'll start to specialise in marketing and advertising areas in the second year. Marketing communication and branding, relationship marketing and media planning are just some of the areas you'll look at.
You can choose to take an optional placement year in your third year, or continue straight to the final year. Our students often say that their placement year is the most rewarding part of the course. You can work alongside professionals in your chosen area and see first hand how the knowledge and skills you've learnt are put into practice. Our Placements Officer will help you find a position and support you throughout the placement period.
The final stage of BA (Hons) Marketing and Advertising Management focuses more on strategy. You'll learn about:
- Strategic change
- Advertising psychology
- Advertising strategy
- PR and reputation management.
You'll also choose two options, so you can start to specialise your knowledge. You will apply all of your learning in the final stage in the Independent Study, an in-depth study of a marketing discipline within an organisation or sector, in an area that interests you.
Careers and employability
- On completion of this degree you'll have both the academic understanding of marketing, the experience of applying it to real business, either through a placement or a consultancy project, and professional qualifications from two of the leading marketing industry professional body's. All of this means you'll be really employable and ready for your first graduate position in marketing.
- You'll also know how to operate in a business environment as we'll have prepared you with the key skills a graduate needs, from time management and motivation through to delivering effective presentations.
- Our graduates have gone on to work in all types of different marketing areas, from brand and category management to advertising agency account managers and executives, media planners and copy writers.
