About this course

This course has been designed to provide you with a multi-disciplinary understanding of human biology, drawing upon fundamental biological science principles, psychology and the science of sport and exercise.

This challenging and stimulating course covers the complex inter-relationships of the physiological, psychological, biochemical and molecular regulation of the human body. You will be taught by active researchers and guest lecturers from a variety of fields to ensure your knowledge is underpinned by the latest findings in human health. We use a variety of teaching methods to enhance your understanding and provide you with the knowledge and skills you will need for a career in human biology.

You can tailor your degree to your own interests by choosing a range of modules in specialist areas. Most of our teaching team are active members of our Biological Sciences Research Group, so you'll be studying an up to date course that is informed by research.

Between stages two and three you can apply to work in industry. This will really enhance your CV and boost your employability skills. You'll develop the relevant professional skills that employers are looking for and you'll also be able to apply your experience to your final stage studies.

Stage three

You'll study these modules:

  • Independent Studies for Biological and Forensic Sciences

And you'll choose three from these modules:

  • Oncology and Immunology
  • The Human Genome
  • Vocational Module
  • Toxicology and Drugs of Abuse
  • Biomedical Implications
  • Human Behaviour and Evolution

Entry requirements

Our entry requirements are usually 260 UCAS points, of which at least 220 will be from your core A2s (full A levels),  including Biology or equivalent qualifications such as BTEC Diploma, International Baccalaureate, Scottish Highers etc.

We'll accept up to 40 points towards the total from level 3 qualifications such as AS levels (where those AS levels are not taken on to A2 level), the Extended Project or Music qualifications.

We don't accept points from Key Skills Level 3. If you have any questions about what is or isn't accepted, please contact our Admissions team.

We also accept the Access to HE Diploma.

Your points at level 3 will be in addition to 5 GCSEs at grade C or equivalent level 2 qualifications.

This is a resource intensive course.

UK/EU students

  • Full time: £8,250 (each year)
  • £1,030 per module (you usually take 18 of these modules in total)

International students

  • Full time: £10,225 (per year)

How you'll learn

You will learn through lectures, tutorials, seminars and e-learning, which are supported by hands-on laboratory practicals. Specific professional and career development skills will be introduced throughout the course, and opportunities to visit working research laboratories and healthcare settings will enhance your employability prospects in the health science sector.

How you're assessed 

Every module has a slightly different form of assessment, you’re therefore assessed using a range of written assignments, including portfolios, practical reports and data analysis, but we also use computer-based assessments, poster presentations and seminar presentations.

Careers and employability

This degree is designed to give you highly relevant and up-to-date skills that are important for jobs located in the NHS, medical research, health charities and biomedical-focused industry. However, there will be sufficient transferable skills to pursue other scientific or analytical roles, such as scientific sales, medicine, dentistry and scientific writing.
