About this course

During this course you'll explore a range of subjects and get back into the swing of studying again.

You'll study English and maths at level 2, which is the equivalent to GCSE grade C. However, if you already have maths and English GCSE, we'll take this into account, and you may be exempt from this part of the course.

As well as improving your language and numeracy skills you'll develop your confidence in writing essays and reports, undertaking research, analysing numbers, doing presentations, managing your time and working as part of a team.

Throughout this course you'll be able to use the library, which has a large collection of books and journals, as well as different areas for group work and individual study. There is also plenty of It equipment for use

During this course:

  • You'll be able to work on your Maths and English skills.
  • You'll have the chance to develop your study skills to prepare you for undergraduate study.
  • You'll also choose two or three subjects to study to prepare you for your degree.

* In order to study Physics or Maths at level 3 you MUST already hold GCSE Maths at C or above.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, however, you will need to demonstrate a commitment and ability to study at this level, and take a literacy test before we can offer you a place.

If you're interested in starting an Access or Foundation Programme - Joint Honours course you should come to one of our information events. You'll have the chance to discuss your plans with tutors and careers advisors involved with the programmes.

All applicants are expected to attend an information event and informal interview to secure their place.

Fees for 2013/14

This is a classroom based course.

UK/EU students

  • Full time: £7,700 (each year)

International students

  • Full time: £9,945 (per year)

How you will learn

You'll be taught through lectures, tutorials, workshops and practical sessions.

How you're assessed

You'll be assessed in a variety of ways, including presentations, reports, essays and case studies.

Careers and employability

You'll be able to move on to a Joint Honours degree once you've successfully completed the Foundation Programme or choose from many other degrees that the University offers.
