BA (Hons) Film and Video Production
Why choose this course?
This is a practical course in which you'll make you own films. As part of our Degree Show, final year students have the opportunity to have their film screened at the prestigious Film Premiere Evening held at Quad - an arts centre that showcases visual arts, film and media. The evening begins with a VIP reception, enabling vital networking opportunities before the films are screened.
- We also encourage students to get involved in film festivals such as FIVE/24 which gives aspiring film makers a single day to write, shoot, edit and complete a film which will then be shown on the big screen at Quad.
- You'll work on collaborative projects, such as the one undertaken by Sean Ford and Dan Romero, who created a series of original short films that were projected behind the actors during a production of Hamlet at Derby Theatre.

About this course
You'll explore the potential of moving images using both film and digital video. It will encourage you to be original and highly creative enabling you to explore your personal agenda, use your imagination, be experimental, take risks, think and act professionally, and encourages your desire to communicate with an audience.
We'll encourage you to anticipate and adapt to change, analyse, evaluate and reflect on information and experiences, and make independent judgments. You'll explore the exciting and challenging areas of film and video practice, and be able to fully engage with new digital technologies.
You will build up the knowledge and practical skills that are essential in a wide variety of careers, from moving image artists to documentary and narrative filmmakers. And we'll encourage you to develop a sound theoretical perspective on both your own work and the work of other mainstream, independent and avant-garde filmmakers.
This course is one of only a handful in the UK that offers you the opportunity to work with celluloid film as a medium. You'll learn about the equipment and software that is currently being used in the moving image sectors, so you'll be ready to start work in the industry when you graduate.
