About this course
During the first semester of your first year you'll be taught alongside the BA (Hons) Textile Design students where you will gain valuable skills such as knit and print, pattern cutting and manufacture. Contextual Studies and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) will continue through to the final year giving you a positive advantage within the fashion and textiles industries. This integration of skills and knowledge has produced innovative and creative textile and fashion designers.
We encourage all second years to take a work placement in industry, which will also give you an additional qualification - the Diploma in Professional Practice. Placements are hard work but give you fantastic experience. Fashion Studies student Krishna Haveliwa secured a placement at Vogue magazine in New York. She began work a few days before New York fashion week and part of her job involved attending a number of the shows.
What you will cover
You'll study a total of 120 credits per year. This will be made up of single or double modules.
Stage one
You'll study modules such as:

- Visual Studies for Fashion and Textiles
- Contextual Studies 1
Stage two
You'll study modules such as:
- Directed Projects in Fashion
- Contextual Studies 2
- Fashion Exploration
- Placement
Diploma in Professional Practice (optional)
You'll study modules such as:
- Applied Professional Practice
- Contemporary Issues in Professional Practice
Stage three
You'll study modules such as:
- Contextual Studies 3
- Negotiated Study in Fashion
- Fashion Direction
- Independent Study in Fashion
Entry requirements
Our entry requirements are usually 260 UCAS points, of which at least 220 will be from your core A2s (full A levels) or equivalent qualifications such as BTEC Diploma, International Baccalaureate, Scottish Highers etc.
We'll accept up to 40 points towards the total from level 3 qualifications such as AS levels (where those AS levels are not taken on to A2 level), the Extended Project or Music qualifications.
We don't accept points from Key Skills Level 3. If you have any questions about what is or isn't accepted, please contact our Admissions team.
We also accept the Access to HE Diploma.
Your points at level 3 will be in addition to 5 GCSEs at grade C or equivalent level 2 qualifications.

We'll also want to see that you're enthusiastic and motivated to take this course and that you have the potential to benefit from coming to university.

How you will learn
You'll be taught by a variety of learning and teaching methods which include: - problem solving, reflective practice, analysis of given problem with synthesis of solution, portfolio building, group work, the use of influences files, report writing, group critiques, negotiated learning, presentation and demonstration.

You could get a career in: fashion design, textile design for fashion or interiors, knitwear, sportswear and accessories design, fashion forecasting, illustration, PR, marketing, media, buying and merchandising, photographic styling...and lots more.
You'll get lots of opportunities to showcase your work and get yourself noticed. Some of our students took a collection to London Alternative Fashion Week.
