About this course

Education Studies is about understanding how people develop and learn throughout their lives, and involves the study of educational processes, systems and approaches including the psychological, social, cultural, political and historical contexts. By studying this course, you'll be encouraged to think about the different aspects of education, where and how education happens, including primary education, secondary education, lifelong learning, and higher education.

During this course you'll gain a deeper understanding of the aims of education and its role within society. Our supportive and committed teaching team are all highly skilled practitioners from a range of backgrounds, including primary, secondary and further education teaching, social work, nursery management, health visiting, social services, law, tourism and information and communications technology (ICT). This means you can be sure you'll gain a wide range of knowledge and expertise. You'll be assessed through essays, presentations, portfolios, role plays and case study analysis. What our students say

Catherine Newton, one of our current students
"From studying Education Studies as a Joint Honours subject, it has opened my eyes to the many aspects of education and has helped me to see how education relates to my other subject area. From having knowledge in more than one specialist area, I have gained transferable skills which I can use when applying for and getting a job in the future. This opportunity has given me a deeper insight into what I want to do at the end of my degree, and the diverse knowledge base has opened many doors to me already."

Angela, graduate
"I loved the course. It was good to do Education Studies as well as another subject because it gave you a broad picture and kept your options open. The modules were all different and so interesting - they made me think about education, myself and what i wanted to do in the future. The tutors were great - very supportive and encouraging and always ready to help you."
