About the course
Building on our close links with leading national and international employers in the events industry, this short course has been developed in partnership with Star Events Group.
It is based on the Institution of Structural Engineers publication - Guidance on procurement design and use of temporary demountable structures (3rd edition). At the same time it addresses key issues the industry faces around the application of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007.
It is ideal for practising event professionals who are responsible for health and safety or customer protection at festivals, sporting events, public gatherings, commercial and not for profit events, outdoor TV productions and large-scale and international meetings utilising temporary structures.
You will gain specific awareness of key topics and their relationship to temporary demountable structures:

- Erection dismantling and inspection
- Wind and loading issues

In line with the Common Sense Common Safety report, completion of this programme will compliment the educational entry criteria to become a Graduate Member of IOSH.

Under the credit transfer scheme this qualification can be used as an exemption against specific modules on a full degree and a route towards MA in Events Management.
How you'll learn
The course is divided into three parts.
- Preparation in Temporary Demountable Structures which is studied online.
- A three day workshop in Derby
- Reflective learning in practice
The three day workshop takes place in Derby. This is supported by online learning which you can do at your own pace and a time to suit you.
How you're assessed
You will have the chance to put your learning into practice through the workshop and practical assessments. A final reflective report on the practical application of learning in practice is required to complete the module.
