Trent and Dove
Trent and Dove Housing wanted to develop their management skills and competencies, reduce the amount of silo working in the organisation, generate a culture of working more closely together and to share good practices.
At a senior level, managers wanted to develop a strategy and business plan that could be implemented across the organisation.
It was important to have input and buy-in from all stakeholders to move the organisation forward in the next few years.
The solution
Our solution was to work with the senior managers and the HR team to develop a tailored management programme that enabled managers at all levels to gain confidence and skills. This would improve team performance, involve wider stakeholders and generate enthusiasm and motivation to support the new strategy and business plan.
The management development programme included workshops, action learning sets, case studies, group and individual tasks, debates, work based projects and presentations.
The delivery team spent considerable time speaking to a range of managers across the organisation to get a grasp of the issues that could be tackled as part of the programme.
The outcome
- A whole range of business benefits included savings and improvements in service. For example, a planned maintenance programme was introduced and a new HR policy implemented.
- A well planned business strategy was developed that was not only well thought through but had input from key stakeholders to ensure it met the future needs of the business.
- An integrated business plan was well received and gained support for implementation across the organisation. As key stakeholders, including managers and staff within the organisation, were involved, the business plan has become embedded in to the day to day operations of the company through appraisals, projects, targets and initiatives.
- A better team culture. Managers at all levels are working more closely together.
- A formal qualification. Each delegate who has successfully completed the programme received an ILM or University of Derby award.
- A learning culture is now developed within the company. The second management development programme was over subscribed when it was launched.
Ron Dougan, Chief Executive of Trent and Dove Housing said:
"Working in partnership with the University of Derby has ensured the smooth running of our first Management Development programme. It has enabled managers from all areas of the organisation to gain an accredited qualification, working together, sharing practical experience and strengthening our team culture."
