Showsec
The events management industry is still maturing, many organisations still depend on largely casual and untrained staff. However, the impact of legislation and the growing professionalism of industry leaders like Showsec has led to a demand for cost effective staff development. To achieve this Showsec and the University of Derby Corporate instigated an effective and mutually beneficial partnership.
The Challenge
Showsec were specifically seeking to develop the leadership and communication skills of their supervisory and management cohort. This presented a number of challenges, including the diverse educational background of those taking part and the operational demands required a flexible and efficiently delivered programme.
Solution
The programme design accurately reflects the client's requirements. It covers personal development, event safety management, leadership, communication and how to develop staff. The programme is built around the principles of work based learning with all of the case studies, workshops and assessments being built around real workplace scenarios. This ensures that the learning is not just relevant but is directly applicable in the workplace.
The Outcome
The developing relationship between UDC and Showsec has already delivered benefits to both partners. Showsec has been accredited by the University as a delivery partner so that Showsec staff can now deliver elements of the development programme. In addition the leadership credibility of both partners within the events management industry has improved with the partnership being showcased at recent work based learning conferences.
