Enter the Dragons Den
Derby's Local Business Accelerators Competition
Imagine what a new business could do with three months of free advertising and the guidance of an entrepreneurial fairy godmother.
The Local Business Accelerators project is designed specifically businesses of between one and three years old which have real potential to grow..
It's a nationwide campaign which has the backing of Dragons Den star Deborah Meaden and Prime Minister David Cameron. Culture secretary Jeremy Hunt has also lent his backing to the campaign.
In Derbyshire, the Derby Telegraph and Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce are hunting for the businesses most likely to benefit.
They have lined up advice from top business mentors plus three months of free advertising in the newspaper for three winners.
Mentors are Ian Morgan, Deputy Chairman of Trent Barton and outgoing chairman of DNCC; Dawn Whitemore of University of Derby Corporate; Brett Critchley, MD of Orchid; Liz Fothergill, Chief Executive of Pennine Healthcare and Julian Smith, East Midlands coach and facilitator at The Alternative Board.
Dawn said: "Helping local businesses to succeed is at the very core of the work we do here at University of Derby Corporate, which is why I'm delighted to be involved with the Local Business Accelerators campaign."
"People are the driving force of any organisation and helping to develop the skills and knowledge of future business owners and their staff is key to helping them become more successful in the future. We have some really talented new business here and this is about helping them to be as successful as possible, which will not only benefit Derby but the whole of the region as well."
