Industry Officials Meet To Discuss The Value Of People In The Quarry Industry
Leading industry figures and members of the community are set to meet at the University of Derby's Kedleston Road site later this month to discuss the value and importance of people within the quarrying sector.
The Institute of Quarrying Annual James Cuthbert Memorial Quarry Question Time, now in its fifth year, will take place on Thursday February 28 and will run from 6:30pm - 9pm, where those interested in the future of the quarry industry are invited to discuss "People: The industry's most important resource?".
The panel, chaired by Peter Huxtable, Secretary of the British Aggregates Association, will comprise Roy Bush, HM Inspector of Quarries, Heather Wheeler, Member of Parliament for South Derby, Peter Barkwill, Chairman for the Institute of Quarrying and Managing Director at John Wainwright & Company, and Claire Mayo, HR Director of Hanson UK.
Nigel Morton, Programme Secretary for the Institute of Quarrying's Derbyshire Branch, said: "During a period where rationalisation is the name of the game, this is the perfect time to discuss whether the industry truly values its people as their greatest asset."
The University of Derby Corporate (UDC) work closely with industry partners such as the Institute of Quarrying (IQ) in order to deliver a range of flexible programmes that can be completed part-time through distance learning.
Andrew Hartley, Managing Director of UDC, adds: "These talks are extremely relevant and important in a forever evolving industry. It is crucial that UDC works with industry partners such as the Institute of Quarrying in order to ensure that the programmes we deliver benefit both our students and industry alike."
