Business Booms at University of Derby Corporate
29 August 2012
The British Film Institute, construction company Clancy Dowcra Limited, retailer Aurora Fashions, Derby City Council, leisure operator DHP Group and New College Nottingham are among the clients University of Derby Corporate (UDC) - the University's corporate and training development division - has recently secured.
Despite the challenging economic climate UDC continues to grow and since January has won in the region of 30 new contracts to deliver work-based learning programmes and accredited qualifications to organisations across the UK.
The bespoke programmes, which are tailored to each employer's training needs, aim to improve key capabilities such as service efficiency, innovation, leadership and management skills, enabling staff to have a real impact on an organisation's success.
Paul Wilkinson, Head of Client Partnerships for University of Derby Corporate, said: "These new contract wins demonstrate the importance now placed by many employers on having a well trained workforce, fully equipped to deal with and succeed in a challenging and competitive marketplace.
"Organisations striving to differentiate themselves value their staff and see them as playing a pivotal role in future success and as a result are choosing to invest significantly in their training and development."
As part of its plans to become more efficient and effective in delivering services to the public, Derby City Council staff are evolving into a mobile workforce and UDC is delivering a training programme designed to support this transition.
Around 400 council learners are currently undertaking personal development activities to develop the skills they need to manage and work in virtual teams. They will consolidate their learning through the creation of an implementation plan. Once training is complete they will each receive a University Diploma in Personal Development.
Pamela Hadfield, Specialist Adviser for Strategic HR at Derby City Council, added: "This programme will equip our managers and core professionals to make the most of the challenges and opportunities presented by 21st century mobile working, to enhance continued service and individual performance."
UDC, which has recently won Learning and Performance Institute (LPI) accreditation, further strengthening its credibility in the corporate sector, can provide corporate training, skills development and accreditation, as well as running scheduled courses across key learning areas which enable clients to address immediate requirements.
LPI Accreditation is recognised as the de facto standard in the Learning and Development industry today and is a requirement for many training tenders in Government and global corporations.
