Winners - THE Award for Outstanding Employer Engagement
25 November 2011
University of Derby Corporate (UDC) are celebrating having won the Outstanding Employer Engagement Initiative category at the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) magazine's annual awards night in London on November 24.
The award recognised UDC's strategic and innovative approach to delivering employers' workforce development needs through accreditation and work based learning.
Hugh Tollyfield, former deputy director for further education and qualifications strategy at the Department for Business, Improvement and Skills, and a member of the judging panel, said: "We had a very strong group of entries, demonstrating the excellence of UK universities in responding to the needs of business, and delivering learning flexibly in a range of modes, supported by well-designed rigorous assessment to meet the needs of employers.
This is exemplified by this years' winner, University of Derby Corporate, which delivers a comprehensive, in-depth and professional business-to-business service. Derby has amassed an impressive portfolio of major UK and international company clients. It shows the sector just what can be achieved with the necessary commitment and leadership."
Among the many clients who endorsed the UDC entry was Croda International. Nigel Fenwick, Group Training Advisor said "the partnership with the University of Derby Corporate is extremely strong. UDC understand the needs of our business, and the need to value what we had already designed but the additional requirement for adding value to it by making it into a University qualification. The process to do this was robust, but supportive. The uptake has been tremendous, we have a waiting list of managers who want to undertake the qualification, and the results have been very encouraging.
We value highly our association - to the extent that we will be allocating space to the University in our refurbished offices. UDC continue to work with Croda on this programme but are also in discussions about widening the partnership for accreditation to include new programmes which may result as managers need to show how they are working with the new management competencies."
