The Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Development: Work Based Learning in Higher Education is specifically designed for academics who engage with the development and delivery of work based learning activities.

It supports you in exploring the different elements associated with learning in a work based context, as well as enhancing and embedding the broader ethos of work based learning across your activities.

It consolidates and recognises your knowledge and expertise and is HEA accredited. On successful completion you can apply for Fellow membership status and use the post-nominal letters FHEA.

Who is it for?

  • Staff currently involved with employer engagement activities such as teaching and delivery for external clients, whose primary focus is working with businesses, or those looking to enhance the employability of their students.
  • Senior academic leaders who are involved in the planning and development of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes which may have potential for conversion to in-house programmes for employers.
  • Academic researchers who are, or who may be in the future, involved in employer based research activities (such as KTP's or applied research projects) and who are considering how to convert research outcomes in applied learning interventions and bespoke business solutions.
  • Academics who are not currently involved in employer engagement activities but who have been identified as 'rising stars' within their respective subject areas.

Specifically, you must be involved in:

  • Designing and planning learning activities on a university accredited programme.
  • Facilitating learning for delegates by delivering sessions and/or supporting learners in the workplace, ensuring that the environment is effective to support learning activities.
  • Assessment and feedback to delegates.

The programme has flexible elements which offer variety and choice, different points of entry and differing levels of learning. In summary it comprises:

  • Bite sized three hour overview sessions, as a general introduction/refresher to the subject.
  • Core taught programme, 60 Credits at Level 7, offering a depth of learning, application and reflection within work based learning and employer engagement.

Higher Education Academy accreditation

The PG Cert in Professional Development: Work Based Learning in Higher Education is accredited by the HEA at Descriptor 2. Graduates can apply for membership of HEA at the level of Fellow.
