Adam Walker - ACCA

Adam studied ACCA at Derby.

After leaving school at 16 I was employed by Malcolm H Preece & Co Chartered Certified Accountants, in Derby. For the first three years I studied AAT at evening classes which gave me a good grounding and understanding that I was able to apply in the work place.

Why ACCA at Derby?

I chose to study ACCA at the University of Derby as I felt that studying for a professional qualification would give me better career opportunities in the future, making me more employable and improving my earning ability.

The whole of the course is very challenging. As it's a professional programme which is held in high esteem, you feel even better when you actually achieve the qualification.

Staff and support

The lecturers were very supportive as I was able to contact them out of normal working hours if I had any questions regarding the work we had covered. Offering afternoon and night time courses also enabled me to take less time off work as I could study after work hours which was also of great benefit to my employers at the time.

I'd definitely recommend studying a professional qualification at The University of Derby, and the knowledge and experience I've gained has benefited my work a great deal.  The ACCA course was interesting and completing my studies and gaining my qualifications has given me confidence in my ability to perform accountancy roles.  It feels really rewarding to know that all my hard work was worthwhile.
