About the course
This course is ideal for anyone who wants to progress their career within the construction materials industry.
You'll gain knowledge and practical understanding of sampling and testing methods and the procedures that are used to determine the characteristics of aggregates. You'll also develop your understanding of the principles of concrete technology, and different types of bituminous mixtures and their uses.
The course materials will be available in electronic form and you'll also have electronic access to our library and other learning resources.

When you successfully complete this course, you'll be encouraged to continue your development by studying related courses, such as the Diploma in Quarry Technology or Diploma in Asphalt Technology.
This course gives you exemption from the Construction Materials module of both diplomas.
How you'll learn
You'll study by distance learning, supported by three Saturday tutorials each year, held in Derby at the Enterprise Centre. Course materials are currently paper based and are fully supported by electronic access to the library and other learning resources. However, many of the learning materials will soon become available in electronic format.
While the course is extremely rewarding, you should know that this form of study demands a considerable commitment in terms of time and effort outside working hours. Therefore, it's important that you're self motivated and prepared to devote at least three hours per week to study.

The course fee includes the provision of the key text and catering at weekend tutorial sessions. It does not include accommodation for weekend tutorials, the study tour or fees for sitting exams overseas

Course length
