Developed with venue and event security professionals Showsec, our short courses cover the key areas of crowd management and provide you with the tools you need to run a capacity event safely and profitably.

Using tried and tested methodologies, and real case studies, you'll learn everything you need to know about organising, planning and running events of any scale so you can balance customer service with security requirements.

Ideal for any venue looking to host events, or upscale their current event activities, they also offer an exciting opportunity for career and professional development.

What qualification will I gain?

On completion of your course you will be awarded a Certificate of Attendance.

Each course is also accredited by the University of Derby which means if you decide to take the work based assessment at the end of the course you can build up 'credits' towards a Higher
Education qualification.

On completion of just two short courses you will be awarded a Certificate of
Continuing Professional Development in Crowd Operations Management. You can then choose to put this towards achieving a full Foundation Degree in Crowd Management.

Dependant upon delegate numbers these courses are available at:

  • University of Derby Corporate, based in Derby
  • Showsec, based in Leicester
  • Study within your own organisation if there is a group of seven or more

Event Planning and Preparation

You will cover:

  • event build-up and project planning
  • audience profiling and using past event
    intelligence
  • health, safety and risk assessment
  • stakeholder liaison - police, fire, ambulance, local authorities, licensing and local community
  • traffic management
  • disaster prevention
  • contingency planning
  • client impact.

Entry and Exit of the Public at Events

You will cover:

  • queuing and search systems
  • arrival patterns and foot traffic routes
  • flow systems and management
  • control points
  • barrier systems and configurations
  • crowd calculations
  • exiting the public safely
  • emergency access and exits.

Security Management Within an Event

You will cover:

  • positioning of SIA guards and stewards
  • seated and standing areas
  • access control
  • understanding pass systems
  • lock down of sensitive areas
  • preparing and presenting a plan
  • information dissemination
  • identification of key risk areas.
