Steve Morton

Workforce Development Fellow

Steve Morton

I graduated in 1977 with a degree in Politics and Sociology. Since then I have held a number of specialist and general marketing roles covering the whole of the marketing mix, working in the automotive, power and education sectors.

My business experience covers the marketing spectrum however my particular focus has been on the development and utilisation of business intelligence to drive competitive advantage. In 2001 I took a role as Marketing Director for Powergen and held senior roles in Powergen and Eon UK until I made a career switch in 2007.

In 2005, in parallel with a mainstream marketing career, I started lecturing at the University of Derby, delivering a variety of the Chartered Institute of Marketing courses. In 2006 I completed a professional teaching qualification (PGPLT) and then further developed my lecturing career by delivering programmes on strategy and marketing at undergraduate, postgraduate and professional postgraduate level.

In 2007 I completed a career switch into the education sector, joining the University of Derby. I am currently a Workforce Development Fellow for University of Derby Corporate, focusing on employer engagement and developing sustainable (and profitable) business relationships within the public and private sector. My specific areas of focus are tourism, event management and hospitality, sports and outdoor activity and spa management.

When not at work I am passionate about travel and sport.
