Pete Revill

An educationalist and teacher by training, I served as a deputy head teacher in my early career and then as a local authority school inspector, moving into the then Employment Department as Vocational Education Advisor. During the past ten years I have served as Senior Manager of a National Training Organisation (NTO) and more recently as an advisor on ICT and electronic skills issues within the UK Department of Trade and Industry.

Over the past few years, I have worked with the European Commission and CEDEFOP developing the European ICT Skills Reference Frameworks and spoken at ministerial conferences on this subject. I have published, on behalf of these bodies and in association with the universities of Reading, York and Flensburg, a range of papers outlining the development of this framework, which is now in use across the European Community.

Through the DTI and NTO I represented the UK Government on the European Career Space project working with 11 of the global ICT and telecommunications companies on graduate and postgraduate ICT skills development. I have worked with the Governmental bodies and Sector Skills Councils on a range of vocational skills issues including apprenticeships, and recently set up a kitemark scheme linked to national qualifications in preparation for the digital TV switchover.

One of my specialities is building projects from scratch to successful implementation, though I do admit that at this stage I have to pass them on.

I have also set up and run a successful educational consultancy.

I lead and facilitate the Transformative Learning Cluster within the University of Derby and my specific research interest investigates assessment in competence based education.

I am a Fellow of the British Computer Society and the Royal Society of Arts.

I am married with two teenage daughters and have the dream of getting on my bike, riding off and just keeping on going!
