Building on the success of last year's event, the University of Derby is once again hosting its free 'Family Fun Day', taking place this Sunday (May 5) from 12-4pm at the University's Kedleston Road site in Derby.
Visitors will be able to get involved in a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities, including exploring the Universe inside the National Space Centre's StarDome Portable Planetarium, meeting meerkats and creepy crawlies, trying out lots of different sports and entering a free prize giveaway.
Sports fans can meet two DCFC first team footballers and DCFC's Rammie, as well as Derbyshire County Cricket Club's Freddie the Falcon, who will be making special guest appearances during the day.
Professor John Coyne, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Derby, said: "We are very excited to once again open the doors of the University to the local community, showcasing the fantastic facilities on offer and giving everyone who attends the chance to get involved with a whole host of fun activities and challenges.
"Whatever the weather we're expecting a fantastic turnout, but we're still keeping our fingers crossed for some sun!"
A photography exhibition featuring the work of young photographers aged 14 to 24 will also be on display and visitors will be able to vote for their favourite.
Mark Thompson, astronomer and presenter of BBC Stargazing Live, will be guest speaking at the event between 2pm-3pm and available afterward to sign copies of his new book.
