Prime-time television shows promoting the success of male dancing such as Strictly Come Dancing might be attracting millions of viewers - but one UK university is struggling to recruit male students to study dance.
The BA (Joint Honours) in Dance and Movement Studies at the University of Derby has yet to celebrate a male graduate in the seven years that the course has been running - and no males were enrolled on the course in the last academic year (2008-09).
The University wants to bridge the gender divide by encouraging men to consider the career opportunities by using their dancing skills.
More than 100 of Derby's female graduates in this subject area have gone on to enjoy successful careers in different areas of dance - as professional dancers, dance and movement therapists, performers and community workers.
