Widening Participation in Higher Education: A Government Target of a Global Challenge: Professor David Gray

27 May 2008

Professor David Gray

Are we actually achieving what we intended or have we just set our sights on that 50% target and forgotten our moral and ethical responsibilities to the communities we serve.

During his lecture David examines the key facts behind the UK's current widening participation agenda:

  • What drives it?
  • Who are the key stakeholder's?
  • Are we actually achieving what we intended or have we just set our sights on that 50% target and forgotten our moral and ethical responsibilities to the communities we serve?

Using examples from around the world, David lead us on a journey of discovery - through countries experiencing severe poverty and deprivation and lacking in any significant joined-up Higher Education strategy - that appear to be doing better than we are at breaking down barriers to accessing Higher Education.
