The Arkwright Society, Phillip Whitehead Memorial Lecture: Investing In Our Past To Inspire Our Future

14 April 2011

Investing in our past to inspire our future

At a time of austerity and the radical reform of public services, all those responsible for the stewardship of our heritage are faced with a stark choice - whether to curtail our ambitions and focus on the protection of our most valuable historic assets or whether to broaden our horizons and to seek to reposition heritage as a key factor in new models for society and economic growth.

From her unique position as Chair of the Heritage Lottery Fund, the largest funder of the UK's heritage, Dame Jenny Abramsky will argue that the decisions we take over the next few years will have a profound impact on the role of heritage in the lives of the UK's citizens for many generations to come.
