Professor Neil Campbell - The Haunting West: The American West and the Global Imagination

30 April 2009

The American West and the global imagination Professor Neil Campbell, Faculty of Arts, Design and Technology.

This lecture explores the idea of ‘haunting’ in a number of ways; primarily as a means of examining Professor Campbell's own fascination with the American West and how it has shaped his research, and, more broadly, in analysing how the West ‘haunts’ the imagination and creativity of writers, photographers and artists.

The lecture draws on a number of examples from literature, film and photography in order to explore the ghostly presence of the West both within American culture and beyond its shores as a more global phenomenon.
