Loud and Clear A voice for work based learners: Professor David Young

28 November 2007

Professor David Young’s lecture focuses on the voices of individual learners who engage with higher education study based in their workplaces. It may be a truism, but without work-based learners there would be no work-based learning! And learning in higher education is not a straightforward process of knowledge transmission, a commodity to be parcelled up by providers and presented to learners. Rather, it is a process of change and transformation as learners engage.

Learning through Work at Derby sends a positive message that work-based learners are willing and capable of taking responsibility for shaping and managing their own university programmes, that they can initiate and sustain academic discourse online and at a distance and that they feel a sense of pride and achievement in doing so.
