Presentation

This Inaugural lecture by Visiting Professor Dennis McKeag addresses the need for innovation in the context of a modern industrial society. Some countries and some companies are better at innovation than others; reasons for success will be examined. Is it possible to change?

A case study based on an SME demonstrates that it is possible to change culture and become successful at innovation. However innovation doesn't just happen, it requires long term policy, strategy and tactics and it requires the right people equipped with the right aptitude, education, training and experience. Innovation is based on commercialisation of new and original ideas so creativity is undoubtedly the most important skill to be embraced and mastered for successful innovation.

Innovation, whether technology and/or design led is seasonal, there is always something better awaiting commercialisation, so the need for continuous innovation will be addressed in the context of engineering and ostentatious design.
