Professor David B Smith enjoys a regular presence in national and overseas media. The former Bank of England official and City of London economist is a Visiting Professor of Business and Economic Forecasting at the University. He is also Chairman of the Shadow Monetary Policy Committee established by the Institute of Economic Affairs in 1997, whose deliberations are summarised each month in the Sunday Times. David is an acknowledged expert on UK monetary policy and the financial markets and has also published extensively on the effects of government spending and taxation on economic performance and, more specifically, the failure of Government spending and taxes to allow for the wide differences in regional living costs in different parts of the UK.
