Case study

Tristram Hooley manages the International Centre for Guidance Studies (iCeGS) at the University of Derby. In this role he undertakes a range of research and evaluation projects focusing on careers and lifelong learning. He previously ran a programme of career education and skill development for researchers at the University of Leicester. Before that he taught, researched and ran projects in higher education.

His career has wound across higher education in a variety of different directions and this experience underpins his research and writing. Careers don't always go in straight lines and it is important that educational institutions are able to respond to this and to offer services flexibly across the life course. This interest in how life and learning relate is the strand that joins together all of Tristram's career as student, teacher, researcher and manager.
