Voice of Congolese Women

Coming together to be creative - to join our hands and our hearts, and to take action by having a voice

Voice of Congolese Women

We practise English in a safe and friendly environment, while sharing our own language and culture more freely. We value meeting people outside our own ethnic groups, and see this as providing new ways of thinking,

Voice of Congolese Women is an independent group that's open to everyone.

We're seeking to reduce isolation, relieve poverty and help Congolese people integrate into society.

Make your own clothes - learn to sew with us

We've run a series of free sewing workshops, where people have:

  • learned how to make simple clothes for themselves and their family
  • had fun, made friends and become part of your community
  • improved their English and French
  • built their confidence
  • become a volunteer
  • taken part in events like our fashion show and celebration.

People attending the workshops said:

"It has made me happy. Sometimes when I am stressing at home it's good to come and see everybody, talk about different things."

"I have gained confidence, both through learning skills, and in helping others to learn new skills."

"As well as seeing folk I know, it's been a real pleasure meeting new people, especially ladies from other cultures, and to share thoughts and experiences."

"It has a special place in my life because it takes me out of the house into fellowship with others. I do enjoy coming here and look forward to it."
