Aims and scope

The first International Workshop on Smart Environments and Collective Intelligence for Disaster Management (SECIDM-2011) is dedicated to the dissemination of completed or work in progress original contributions that are related to the theories, practices and concepts of emerging computational and collaborative technologies for the specific purpose of managing disasters.

Various advanced and emerging paradigms could be applied as a means to mitigate and prepare for, respond to and recover from growing occurrences of natural and man-made disasters. Such emerging technologies include recent advances in situated and pervasive environments, which enable a more informed decision making via the autonomous service adaptation caused from a highly dynamic crowd.

SECIDM-2011 will focus on the advances of applicable technologies including smart spaces and sensors, context-aware, situated and pervasive computing, geographical information systems, ad-hoc mobile networks, wireless communications, grid and cloud computing, social networks, Web 2.0 and crowd sourcing. 

The scope of SECIDM-2011 is to demonstrate the increased applicability and impact of utilising smart environments and collective intelligence in satisfying the disaster's management domain challenging requirements. Finally, SECIDM-2011 aims to provide a forum for original discussion and prompt future directions in the emerging area.

Topics

Papers should be focused on past, current and emerging methods and/or use of technologies with a particular focus to the computational intelligence in the decision-making required for managing disasters.

Submission

Submitted papers must be original and not submitted for publication elsewhere.

Authors are invited to submit their six pages long manuscripts (with up to five keywords) following the format according to the guidelines of Procedia Computer Science, MS Word Template, Latex, Elsevier.

The authors must follow the Elsevier guidelines as given in MobiWIS-2011

To submit, you must follow the instructions, and select the SECIDM-2011 workshop among the Easychair options. All papers will be peer reviewed by at least two or more independent referees of the SECIDM-2011 Workshop programme committee and accepted on the basis of their scientific merit, originality, significance, technical soundness, and clarity of exposition.

Proceedings

All accepted papers must be accompanied by a full paid registration by at least one of the authors in order to be included in the main proceedings.

All papers accepted for workshops will be included in the MobiWIS-2011 proceedings, which will be published by Elsevier.

The selective outstanding papers presented at the SECIDM-2011 workshop, after further revision, will be considered for publication in journals special issues.
