The information systems used in the Financial Services Sector are extremely complex in both the processing and the connectivity between the various parties. They also operate at the limits of technology with ultra-fast processing and communications needs. For some operators a saved milli-second in processing and communications timing is claimed to be worth $4M per year extra profit. They are also highly regulated by the Financial Services regulators and suffer from regular changes due to regulatory requirement changes.

The lecture will outline some of the most significant challenges met in introducing and using new IT systems in this sector, and will draw on Kiri's experience to provide an overview of the key challenges to informatics professionals in meeting the needs of this very demanding business sector, where functionality, information governance and timescales are of over-riding importance. It will start with a brief overview of the Post Trade Services sector and then use the systems analysis Waterfall structure to provide the framework of the critical analysis of the challenges at each stage of typical projects.
