The Support Centre for Further Mathematics is based at the Kedleston Road site
What is the Support Centre for Further Mathematics?
The Support Centre for Further Mathematics supports the Enrichment and Outreach Programme for A Level and Further Mathematics in schools.
It takes over from, and builds on the success of, the Derbyshire Further Mathematics Centre which has been run from Derby University for the past three years.
Who is it for?
We support schools, teachers and students teaching A Level and Further Mathematics. We run inspirational and exciting events and revision day sessions for Year 10 and Lower Sixth students - either at school or here at the University.
What do we do
The Support Centre will:
- Promote mathematics and raise awareness of the benefits of studying mathematics beyond GCSE
- Enthuse and inspire students to study mathematics at A level and beyond
- Highlight the industrial and commercial importance of mathematics within local firms and companies.

The University of Derby has, for 3 years, been a fund holder for the Derbyshire Further Mathematics Centre. The remit for this initiative has changed this year largely due to funding cuts and a reorganisation of resources. However the enrichment activities organised by the Centre manager, Paul Dale, proved to be very popular with schools, teachers and students. As a result, the University of Derby has recognised this and is very pleased to continue to support these events. The Support Centre for Further Maths which will be based at the university and will be the vehicle to support the enrichment and out-reach program for A level and further mathematics.
Our aims
The Support Centre for Further Maths aims to;
- promote mathematics and raise awareness of the benefits of studying mathematics beyond GCSE
- enthuse and inspire students to study mathematics at A level and beyond
- highlight the industrial and commercial importance of mathematics within local firms and companies.
Requests for Further Maths teaching should be sent to the east midlands regional co-ordinators of the FM Support program.
