Work with leading gaming studios

Cowboy, by one of our students

Derby is at the centre of a network of games studios spanning the East Midlands region. Here at the University we have direct links with many of these studios, along with a number of other software development companies, including Microsoft.

Our current placement students are receiving great reviews from their companies in industry which include Lionhead, Blitz, Kuju, Eurocom and Monumental.

You'll enjoy visits to both national and international gaming events, guest lectures from leading industry developers and a host of games competitions and regular local events. These are important opportunities to liaise with working professionals and form a greater understanding of the games industry.

Working with Emergent

We continue to tie in our programmes with the games industry.  We're the only UK university to have the full source code to Emergent's Gamebryo games engine, the platform on which the recent top seller Fallout 3 game was created. Our final year students are currently battling to get as much experience with it before they graduate.

Derby Games Studio

Our internal games studio launched in 2008 and we're currently employing three of our placement students full time, and many others on a part time basis. We've developed projects in Second Life and for Derby's Big Screen amongst others.
