Imagine Cup
Our students hold their own on the global stage
Above are some examples of the games submited by our students.
brilliant way these teams have worked and how they have impressed us. To get this far in an international competition of such a high-standard is such a huge credit to the teams involved. ”
John Sear - Programme leader for BSc (Hons) Computer Games Programming
The Imagine Cup is an annual student technology competition held by Mircosoft. The event begins with local and regional competitions and comes to an exciting finale at the worldwide finals, this year held in Poland.
In 2010 there were 56 entries from Great Britain. Of these 13 were selected to go through to the semi-final round, and 10 came from the University of Derby.
With exception of the USA and Poland, more teams went through from the University of Derby, as a single institution. than any other country in the world!
Tough competition
Mircosoft only took six teams from the 150 left in the semi-finals through to the finals in Poland. Sadly, none of our teams made past this stage, but we are very proud of our students for the hard work they put into the competition and for the impressive progress that they made.
A fantastic achievement
Dave Voorhis - programme leader for BSc (Hons) Computer Games Programming - was very impressed with what the teams had achieved.
"I can't praise enough the brilliant way the students worked and how they have impressed us. To get that far in an international competition of such a high-standard was such a huge credit to the students involved."
