After completing their second year on the BSc (Hons) Networks and Security, David Stevenson and Leon Revill-Hendley decided to take a bit of a different approach to their placement year and became their own bosses, by setting up their own IT firm, Quantum23 Solutions.
Business in a Box
David and Leon's idea was to supply newly created businesses with computing solutions.
David said "as a new business yourself, you end up speaking to a lot of people who are also trying to get started and a recurring problem for them is getting the right IT services."
They might go with somebody who'd recommend a computer system that wasn't suitable for their needs or they'd have to pay different specialists each time to get a website designed, leaflets printed or to consult on upgrades.
We had the idea of providing everything businesses might need in one package, such as help with IT systems, advice on updates, website design and graphic design for leaflets, posters and business cards. This takes all the stress off people and allows them to get on with their real business."
Leon added "we've had a positive reaction from people and we will be looking to provide a number of 'Business in a Box' packages for different types of businesses, at different costs, when we launch the offer shortly."
If they get enough interest and business throughout the year, David and Leon hope to continue running Quantum23 Solutions as well as completing the final year of their degree.
