Why I chose Derby

After being made redundant in April 2009, I wanted to remain involved with IT, but had tried and failed at distance learning in the past so I looked at what courses were available at universities and private training centres.

The course at Derby was one of the first courses I found and it immediately struck me as an area I wanted to explore. After meeting the programme leader and after attending one of the open days, I was sold.

Student life

Starting full time was initially quite daunting as I'd been out of education for over ten years, but I was surprised at how quickly I reverted to the role of being a student. The course content was really interesting, with some modules more challenging than others. I enjoyed all the modules and found the lecturers to be knowledgeable and friendly.

A rewarding experience

I found the course very rewarding and I now have a much more impressive CV, which includes not only the relevant knowledge gained from the course, but also the skills required to complete a masters course, such as managing the intense workload, time management, the ability to present work to others, independent research and project management.
