I met some amazing people at Derby and I can honestly say it has really made me the person I am today.

Jagdeep graduated in 2006 having completed his BSc (Hons) Computer Science degree. He's now working for a specialist IT consulting firm.

A degree would help me open doors

I felt a degree would help me, as it would open more doors and opportunities for me, especially in the IT market. I had an interest in both Business and IT, so I decided to study computing, as it would develop my skills in both areas. I found it to be very interesting, the most enjoyable aspect of the degree involved modules concerning business analysis and problem solving, which were extremely challenging.

A great place to study

The lecturers at Derby were very supportive and professional. The university has excellent facilities, which includes industry standard IT labs and a fantastic Library with a number of study areas and workstations. As well as the studying aspect, Derby is great for socialising and meeting new people. I made a lot of new friends from different backgrounds and I also met my wife at the University who I have been with since 2002.

The hard work paid off

The course was very challenging and hard work, however the hard work was rewarded during the graduation ceremony, a proud moment for me and my family. I now work for a recruitment firm called Certes, one of the leading suppliers of specialist IT consultants to the government/public sector. I am a Public Sector Consultant which involves account management of high-level public sector accounts, service delivery, recruitment and selection. The degree I studied has helped me in my role, with my knowledge of IT and business I am able to understand my client's requirements fully and appreciate how their systems work.

I'd definately recommend Derby

I would definitely recommend studying a degree at Derby, it was perhaps the best experience of my life. I met some amazing people at Derby and I can honestly say it has really made me the person I am today. I consider Derby to be my second my home.
