I got my acceptance letter from other universities too, but I chose the University of Derby because of the Computer Games programme.

Rohit is from India and is currently studying MSc Computer Graphics Production.

Undergraduate study and work experience

After completing High School I opted for studying 3D Animation. There were no universities offering a bachelors degree in this stream, so I enrolled in a private institution and from there I completed my Advanced Diploma in 3D Animation and Visual Effects.

After that I joined MAAC as a Technical Instructor and worked there for around one year, after which I decided to uplift my skills in this industry.

About the course

The course structure includes a variety of topics ranging from technical to management, to ethics and moral values.

The way of delivering lectures with a combination of presentation and practical work is very good. The UDo Blackboard system is also a good practice, making it easy to use the online library resources and submit assignments.

Life in Derby

Living in Derby is great because it's a quiet place and everything is relaxed. I chose to live in private accommodation, but halls are available too. Also, it is easy to make new friends - and one way to make some friends is to socialise in the local pubs in the evening!

A typical week in Derby

A typical week in Derby is usually very busy for me, but also enjoyable...

Monday

I do not have any lectures on a Monday, so I spend time looking at any previous assignments which are due in. I also go to the supermarket for grocery shopping, do some cooking and talk to my family and friends. Mondays are also good for student nights out in Derby, so I sometimes go out on a Monday evening.

Tuesday and Wednesday

I work part-time on a Tuesday and Wednesday from 12pm - 4pm, and I have lectures from 6pm - 9pm. I am usally tired when I get home, so I have a quick dinner and relax!

Thursday

I have two lectures from 2pm - 5pm and 6pm - 9pm on a Thursday. After finishing my lectures I usually go out in Derby with my friends for a few drinks, usually at the Jazz bar.

Friday

I do not have any lectures or part time work on Friday, so I spend a bit of time relaxing, listening to music and doing some studying. I always catch up with my family on a Friday, and often go out for a walk.

Saturday

I usually try to finish all of my university assignments on Saturday. Occasionally, I will leave Derby on a Friday for a weekend trip to another UK city.

Sunday

I work on Sundays from 12pm - 4pm and I spend the rest of the day relaxing.
