This course will provide you with an academically challenging learning experience in the field of computer aided design. What you'll learn is tailored to the professional requirements in the fields of architecture and construction, so we know that you will be learning skills that employers in this field really value.
You will study each module over the course of at least 12 weeks, through evening classes between 6-9 pm, one evening per week. You will have extensive online support including regular contact with your tutor, discussion groups and downloadable teaching support material.
For the Certificate of Achievement Level 4 (2D Architectural Computer Aided Design):
You will develop an expertise in a specific subject area. You'll take the taught module Computer Aided Architectural Design (CAAD) In this module, you will use AutoCAD software and develop professional 2D and 3D modelling skills and concepts relevant to the architectural design in producing professional detailed drawings and rendered 3D visuals.
You will also take a negotiated work based module on 2D Architectural CAD. This is where you use the skills you've learned in your own place of work to complete a project within a set timeframe which you'll be assessed on.
For the Certificate of Achievement L5 (3D Architectural Computer Aided Design):
You'll take the taught module Advanced Computer Aided Architectural Design (ACAAD). You will use AutoCAD and ArchiCAD and extend your skills and competencies in 2D/3D CAD. We'll look at the advantages and benefits of a parametric approach to computer aided architectural design.
You will also take a negotiated work based module on 3D Architectural CAD. This is where you use the skills you've learned in your own place of work to complete a project within a set timeframe which you'll be assessed on.
For the Certificate of Achievement L5 (Design Visualisation in Architectural Computer Aided Design):
You'll take the module Multimedia and Design Visualisation in Architecture (MDVA). In this module, you will learn professional skills which enable you to create digital multimedia environments in which your designs, ideas and information can be visualised, shared, communicated and presented. You will use software such as Adobe Photoshop, 3D Studio Max, Dreamweaver, Flash, Director/Power Point.
You will also take a negotiated work based module on Design Visualisation in Architectural CAD. This is where you use the skills you've learned in your own place of work to complete a project within a set timeframe which you'll be assessed on.
For the University Diploma in Computer Aided Design (Architecture):
You'll take the following modules:
- Computer Aided Architectural Design (CAAD)
- Advanced Computer Aided Architectural Design (ACAAD)
- Multimedia and Design Visualisation in Architecture (MDVA)
Plus a negotiated work based module. This is where you use the skills you've learned in your own place of work to complete a project within a set timeframe which you'll be assessed on.
For the University Advanced Diploma:
You will study these modules:
- Digital Design in Architecture - you will be introduced to cutting edge CAD and VR environments capable of enhancing your design creativity. They will also enable you to efficiently explore different building design concepts and assess their performance.
- Advanced 3D Modelling and Photorealism - you will focus on advanced 3D modelling concepts and their application in design. You'll learn how to produce photorealistic visualisation media for presentation of your architectural design.
You will also take a negotiated work based module. This is where you use the skills you've learned in your own place of work to complete a project within a set timeframe which you'll be assessed on.
