Free Habitat Courses in June & July
WildDerby is offering FREE places on two habitat management courses this summer. These courses will give you an understanding of habitats, their components and why and how they are managed to provide suitable homes for wildlife. Each and course will include a classroom session in the morning. Following lunch (please bring a packed lunch and drink) a site visit will take place to look at the habitat in a nearby local nature reserve. These courses are suitable for beginners and are open to anyone, but may be of particular interest to members of local community wildlife groups, volunteers and students.
Grasslands and Grassland Management, Allestree Park LNR
Saturday 23 June 10am-3.30pm
This one day course is a basic introduction to grasslands, grassland ecology and grassland management. It will provide volunteers and community groups with an understanding of the theory of grassland management, including an appreciation of the different types of grasslands, recognising key grassland indicators and understanding different strategies for grassland management.
Wetlands and Wetland Management, Mickleover Meadows LNR
Saturday 21 July 10am-3.30pm
This one day course is a basic introduction to wetlands, wetland ecology and wetland management. It will provide volunteers and community groups with an understanding of the theory of wetland management, including an appreciation of the different types of wetlands, recognising key wetland plants and understanding different management strategies for wetland habitats, especially ponds.
